Supplements..let's talk allergies & illness
Cold season is upon us and fall allergies!
I've talked to many moms lately who are frustrated by their kids eczema, allergies, and coming home sick each week with a new bug! So let's talk about what is actually good for our kids and helping them create a stronger immune system.
These are some of my favorite supplements!
Allergies:
- Hist Reset: (age 18 & up): designed to modulate mast cell and immune mediator activation, aka naturally doing what anti-histamines do, but instead using NAC, bromelain, and Quercetin.
- I take one daily to control my allergies, but if severe allergy season, up to 2 caps daily
- D-Hist Jr: Ortho Molecular Products D-Hist JR Tablets: Same ingredients as Hist reset, but in chewable tablets for kids, *does contain sugar
Sickness:
- Stomach bug!
- STOP giving Pedialyte - why!
- contains artificial sugars and food dyes
- Red 40 - linked to cancer, Blue 1 - linked to asthma
- Sucralose - artificial sugar linked to inflammation and alternating gut microbiome
- "Natural flavor" - a non-FDA regulated word that they can put anything in for
- Dextrose - sugar derived from corn, high-GMO crop
- Instead
- Organic, free-range bone broth
- Water with electrolytes
- Organic coconut water
- Ultima electrolyte powder + water
- Common Cold
- My top 3 cold fighting regimen is elderberry, ossocilium, and quercitin!
- Quercetin: Supports immune health, Fava d’anta tree (Dimorphandra mollis) pods
- these come in capsules, dosing for kids should 1/4 to 1/2 adult dosing, can open the capsules up for kids
- NAC: Powerful antioxidants, restores body's natural detoxification process
- NAC Powder - great option for kids, mango-peach flavor that you can add to their water for daily immune support or when they're sick (also great during stomach bug!)
- NAC capsule - for those who want a capsule option instead!
- Oscillococcinum: Homeopathic multi-symptom flu medicine, slightly sweet pellets dissolve under the tongue, works to reduce flu-like sx and reduce length of cold. Take every 6 hours until symptoms resolve and start at first sign of cold-like symptom.
